Upside down and inside out
Community Mennonite Church
Lent 2015

We light a light in the name of the God who creates life,
the Savior who loves life,
and the Spirit who is the fire of life.

With these words we’ll begin our Lent worship services. We invite you to worship with us and enter into the scriptures for this Lenten season by reading them along with the Lenten devotional prepared by writers from CMC, Chapel Hill Mennonite Fellowship and Shalom Mennonite Congregation. Some of these texts, the changes in our lives, or events in the world will turn us “upside down” in the course of these 40 days of Lent. Nevertheless, we believe that the Holy Spirit is at work within us and ultimately moves us out into the world as a faithful people bearing the life of Christ. Each Sunday the children’s story will focus on a different way to pray. Pastoral Team has also developed some connections between these prayer practices and our theme scripture for this year: Colossians 3:12-17. Our theme hymn during Lent is a text by John Wesley “Jesus, I believe you’re near” and a new tune, by Matthew A. Carlson of CMC.
