David the Shepherd Boy, a dramatic cantata, will be presented during Eastern Mennonite School’s Homecoming Weekend, Saturday, Oct, 17 at 7 pm, and Sunday Oct 18 at 1:30 pm, at the Eastern Mennonite School auditorium. No tickets or advanced seating is required. This cantata, featuring special soloists, trios, quartets, children’s choir and adult choir, had been a tradition at EMHS for many years and was last presented at the high school in the late 70’s. Marvin Miller will be back to direct this inspirational musical life story of David in the Old Testament. Anyone who has ever sung DAVID, or would like to have that experience, is invited to join the adult choir. Blue Ridge Ministries is offering their annual leadership luncheon October 15 at Traditions Restaurant with conversation around the book, The Spacious Heart: Room for Spiritual Awakening. Authors Don Clymer and his sister Sharon Clymer Landis will share their insights and stories as pastors and lay leaders from various denominations dialogue around the table on the topic. “Our Stories, God’s Story,” Mennonite Women of Virginia’s Fall Retreat, is October 30 to November 1 at Massanetta Springs Camp and Conference Center, Harrisonburg, Va. Well-loved Southern Gospel music group, Inspirations, bring their award-winning sound to the Shenandoah Valley on Saturday, October 24, 6:15 p.m., Lindale Mennonite Church. Inspirations’ enthusiasm and musical excellence inspire thousands as they sing uplifting gospel music. John Schmid, country and Gospel singer from Ohio, will open for them. The 14th annual Festival of Praise, a praise-filled concert of men’s singing groups and combined chorus, will be Sunday, November 1 at 4 pm at the Eastern Mennonite School auditorium, 801 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg. Featuring 12 singing groups each performing two songs and then combining into a mass chorus for the finale, this concert will raise funds for the ministries of Virginia Mennonite Missions.
