  • Gingerbread Pancake Breakfast at CrossRoads—February 14, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Bring your sweetie for a delicious pancake breakfast at the CrossRoads Heritage Center, browse our Gingerbread Village display and see the winners of our contest.   You can still participate in the voting!  Stop by at any time during our open hours (Wednesday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and vote for your favorites.  Each vote is $1.  Cost for the February 14 breakfast is $5/person; children ages 4 and under are free.
  • Second Saturday Night Out! (Valentine's Day Date Night) on Saturday, February 14, 5pm-8pm. Our Community Place (non-profit community center welcoming the least of these) is transformed into a fine-dining restaurant featuring a delicious 4-course meal. Suggested donation is $20.   • The Albert N. Keim Lecture Series presents?:  C?harles R. Epp, "T?he Police and Racial Discrimination in America?"  Driving-while-black “Stop and frisk” isn’t just a reality in New York City or Ferguson, Missouri. New data shows how police target African Americans on highways across the U.S.  Dr. Epp is an award-winning author and professor in the School of Public Affairs and  Administration at the University of Kansas. His research focuses on law as an instrument of reform.  Most recently, he is co-author of Pulled Over:  How Police Stops Define Race and Citizenship (2014)

  • Eastern Mennonite School will be hosting the 2015 MSC Orchestra Festival on Feb. 26-27. We are in need of host homes for students from Lancaster Mennonite, Christopher Dock and Shalom for the night of Feb. 26.   • Women’s Bible Study Spring 2015: Join us at Park View Mennonite Church for a 10 week session on “WOMEN of FAITH in the MARKETPLACE” starting Wednesday Feb. 25. Come to hear 10 local women share how their faith and work intersect as they use their gifts in the business world in our community. Hear their personal journeys of the joys and challenges they face.   • An end-of-life 'train the trainer' event will be hosted at VMRC and led by Beryl Jantzi, Everence director of stewardship education, March 17 (snow date is March 19) from 9:00 – 3:00 with registration starting at 8:30.  The fee is $15 payable at the event and covers the 40 page manual, snacks and lunch.  For more information and to register contact Patty Skelton at skelton@everence.com or call 540-437-7422.   • MCC Sharing With Appalachian People (SWAP) is pleased to announce Church Leadership Week on March 23-28, 2015. This week has been set aside for pastors, youth leaders, ministers and others who will potentially be leading groups who have not previously been to SWAP. Participants are invited to come to Appalachia to experience a typical SWAP week and learn more about the home repair program. The fees to participate with SWAP have been waived for this event, so those attending would be responsible only for their own transportation to and from the SWAP site in Hindman, Ky.   • Come out to Pleasant View, Inc.'s 18th Annual Golf Tournament to support individuals with intellectual disabilities on Friday, May 15, at Spotswood Country Club (1980 Country Club Road in Harrisonburg, Va.) This will be in a Captain's Choice format. Registration will begin at 8:00 am, with a shotgun start at 9:00 am. Team prizes, contest prizes, and door prize drawings will be awarded after lunch. Fees are $100/golfer or $380/team of 4. There will be team prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Mulligans, power balls, and 50/50 will be offered at registration. We will also have closest to the pin and longest drive contests. Lunch will be provided.
  • Join us for Celebrate Recovery! – a Christ-centered 12-step recovery group that deals with hurts, habits and hang-ups, including but not limited to, depression, anger, lust, alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, workaholism, abuse, anxiety, etc. Come discover the path to freedom. Children are welcome too! Infants to 5th graders will also learn what recovery is about in a way?? specifically designed for them.   • Robert Bersson's "Israel/Palestine Conflict in Film" course is now being offered free of charge to the Harrisonburg community. The film class meets Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm in EMU's Seminary Building, Room 123 (first floor). This film course offers an excellent opportunity to learn about Israel and Palestine and the history of the conflicts in the region.   • New Song Anabaptist Fellowship has moved and is now meeting in the Alive Recording Studio room at the MennoMedia building on Route 42 near EMHS. Visit Pastor Basil and Diane Marin and their multi-cultural congregation Sunday mornings at 10am.
  • The Table Fellowship has changed meeting time and location.  Our small congregation now meets in the Dean House, at 110 Old South High Street in Harrisonburg, across from Community Mennonite Church.  The group gathers on Sundays around 4:00pm, and begins worship at 4:30, with a shared supper following the service.  All are welcome to join us for worship and the meal afterward.  Find more information at thetablefellowship.net or send inquiries to info@thetablefellowship.net.

  • Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) invites qualified candidates to apply for a tenure-track, continuing faculty position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Restorative Justice and Peacebuilding to begin Fall Semester 2015. The faculty member will teach both graduate and undergraduate courses in restorative justice, conflict analysis and community assessment, design of interventions into conflicted relationships and systems, and basic skills for working with individuals and groups in conflict. Faculty member will work closely with a team in providing leadership in core courses, explore new courses and majors in the restorative justice field, and will engage in mentoring and supporting graduate students and traditional undergraduate students in practicums and professional fields. PhD and three to six years of field experience required. Application review begins February, 2015. Some applicants will be asked to respond to questions specific to EMU’s mission after the initial inquiry.
