The Center for Interfaith Engagement (CIE) at Eastern Mennonite University presents the film series “Across Cultures: Profiles in Courage and Resilience,” featuring 12 films of various genres, including fiction and documentaries, about human rights, environmental and social justice leaders. The series is moderated by Dr. Bob Bersson, visiting Jewish scholar at CIE. The films will be shown on Wednesdays beginning at 7 p.m. at Eastern Mennonite Seminary in Room 123. The 14th Annual Kennel Charles Anabaptist lecture will be February 8 at 7:00 pm in the Eastern Mennonite School auditorium. Author John E. Sharp will tell stories from the life and times of Orie O. Miller, one of the most remarkable Mennonites of the twentieth century. His book is My Calling to Fulfill: The Orie O. Miller Story, published by Herald Press in 2015.  All are welcome to attend this free event.

OCP's February Night Out with La Morena is Saturday, February 13, 5pm-8pm. Engage with the Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery project at Eastern Mennonite University, February 15 through March 2. A traveling historical exhibit timeline created to educate and raise awareness among Mennonites and other Christians about the Doctrine of Discovery is on display in the Campus Center Greeting Hall from February 15-March 4. The Loss of Turtle Island participatory learning experience, depicting the historic relationship between European settlers – including Mennonites – and the Indigenous nations, is on March 2 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Greeting Hall. Join theologian, activist, blogger, and author Drew G. I. Hart at Eastern Mennonite University Martin Chapel February 18 at 7pm and EMU Lehman Auditorium chapel February 19 at 10am for a discussion on racial reconciliation and the work of the church. Both events are free and open to the public. Hart is the author of “Trouble I’ve Seen: Changing the Way the Church Views Racism” published by Herald Press. See attached flyer for details.

Attention MEN! Every day couples are making decisions regarding their unintended pregnancy. The father of the baby plays a critical role in that decision. Skyline Literacy will hold its Play for Literacy Scrabble Tournament on February 21st from 2:00 to 4:30 pm at Skyline Middle School. This will be Skyline’s first fundraising event in 2016 and we are hoping to start the year off with a great response from the community. Tickets:  Teams $50, Individuals $20. This is a TEAM PLAY tournament. Bring your team of 3 or come on your own and join a team at the event and make new friends! Prizes will be awarded in several categories! Senior high youth and sponsors are invited to VMC Senior High Retreat on “Peace & Nonresistance” with Titus Peachey and Earl & Pat Martin, February 19-21 at Highland Retreat. Exploring "Peace & Nonresistance," the content will cover both big picture peace/violence questions and registration with Selective Service and military enlistment questions. Annual Meat Canning for MCC will be February 22-26 at the Hinton Mennonite Relief Center, Hinton, Va. Virginia Mennonite Conference is responsible to provide help on Tuesday, February 23. (Help is needed from 5 am until 11 pm each day.) Friday, February 27 is scheduled as a community day and help is especially needed in the early morning. Anyone is welcome to come and help on any day! Funds are needed to purchase turkey for processing and for the ongoing operation of the Relief Center. MennoMedia seeks a Curriculum Project Director to oversee all aspects of Shine: Living in God’s Light, a multicomponent Sunday school curriculum for ages 3 through grade 8. A strong understanding of Christian education and curriculum is required. Full-time, salaried position for the duration of the curriculum, projected to be four to five years.
