CMC Events and Announcements

Sunday School for Children and Youth began September 3. Children ages 2-3 are using a curriculum called Wee Wonder.  Ages 4-high school are using lessons from the Circle of Grace/Our Whole Lives curriculum for the first three Sundays in September. Details of topics for each Sunday, age groups and meeting locations, and teachers/assistants were placed in mailboxes last Sunday, and are available on the kiosk in the Fellowship Hall. The Shine curriculum will begin on October 1.

Children’s Sunday School Teachers for 2017-2018. We still have a need for teachers and assistants for children’s Sunday school for the fall quarter. Needed are teachers for the “regular” lessons from the Shine curriculum, which will begin on October 1. We invite you to consider taking on one of these roles while also learning to know the children who are an important part of our church family. You may sign up for one quarter, two quarters or for a whole year. Please sign up on the Sunday school chart in the Fellowship Hall. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Monica Carlson. Thank you for your participation in helping guide our children on their faith journeys!

Green Congregation–Climate Action. Another option is available for the adult education hour this quarter beginning Sept. 3. Gather to learn more about global climate change and help discern ways CMC can get active in addressing it as a congregation, as family units, and in the community locally and beyond. Many think the devastation to the planet and to marginalized people is the biggest challenge facing humankind. What are the roles for justice minded faith communities? For us? The class will meet in Dean House, Room #3. –Wayne Teel and Brian Martin Burkholder

CMC Annual Retreat.  CMC's annual retreat will be held September 22-24 at Camp Brethren Woods. Our keynote speaker will be Isaac Villegas, pastor of Chapel Hill Mennonite Church. The theme will be Love, Joy and Resistance: Practicing the politics of Mary in the face of empire. In addition to learning sessions with Isaac, we are planning hands-on learning activities for children and youth, story-telling and s'mores around a bonfire, Saturday Night Live (CMC-style), and free-time for outdoor activities. Come for part or all of

CMC Small Groups. Would you like to be part of a small group?  Anabaptists believe that the Christian life should be lived alongside others, not in isolation. CMC small groups provide settings for deeper relationships and a community to share fellowship, study, personal encouragement, counsel, practical support, outreach, and fun. Small groups are made up of 6-12 adults, plus children, who meet weekly or bi-weekly. CMC encourages all regular attenders to participate in small-group life. If you are interested in joining a small group, please contact Pastor Dayna or Heather Harris at heatherjill 81@hotmail.com or cell phone: (937) 597-8289

CMC wants to keep in touch with you! Please notify the church office whenever your contact information changes, or if you would like to receive weekly emails with CMC announcements and prayer requests. Mailboxes (located in the Fellowship Hall) are available to CMC members and regular attenders. A regularly updated version of the CMC directory is available online on the CMC website (the password is the same as it has been for a long time—please call the church office if you do not know what it is). Photo directories (updated every few years) are available through the church office and can be handy resources for getting to know the names of fellow CMCers.

Host homes for Goshen College singing group. Goshen College's Parables singing group will lead us in worship on October 15. We need several host homes for 2 – 4 students for Saturday and Sunday nights (October 14 and 15). Please contact Katie Derstine at katiederstine@gmail.com.

Fall Mums Fundraiser for Community Preschool. The Community Preschool is selling beautiful fall mums! Look for the display in the fellowship hall to sign up, or contact Eliot or Katrina Swartz at ekswartz@gmail.com.

Summer Daze and Menno Nights. Have you yet to gaze upon the double-truck photo collage posted on the bulletin board on the west wall of the fellowship hall?  Relive highlights of the worship series themes, "Love is a Verb" and "Living Joyfully" as the remarkable people of CMC are caught sharing their gifts through the spoken word, music, everyday ministries and other activities. This is the last Sunday for this display to be up and running, so walk, don't run (for you Ventures fans) to check it out before it's gone.    Jim Bishop

Update from Tabea Zimmermann received last week. Tabea reports that she was discharged from the hospital in Johannesburg and has flown back to Lusaka. She has been staying at the MCC Lusaka office/guest house. The pain and swelling in her leg have decreased considerably, and she is doing rehab and working toward regaining range of motion. She writes: “Thank you for your continued prayers and support. The past two weeks have been quite a whirlwind of medical care, travels and transitions, a myriad of emotions and thoughts… And throughout, your outreach and love has pulled me through. . . Overall, I am feeling much better and steadily recovering, although it will take some time. I am trying to use this time of forced immobility to tackle the projects and research that have been pushed aside for too long. I am grateful to be in a welcoming space conducive to my recovery, with caring people surrounding and encouraging me. The scary part is over and now it’s a focused, steady, patient road to full recovery. Thanks for your prayers, continued inquiries, and well wishes. I am happy to share that things are looking up. Best, Tabea
