Local Events and Opportunities

  • Virginia Mennonite Missions invites you to "Around the World in a Big Balloon," a Family Missions Festival celebrating the people and ministries of VMM, on Sunday, May 11, 3-6 pm at the Eastern Mennonite School gym (801 Parkwood Dr., Harrisonburg.) Besides learning about the ministries and workers of VMM, other activities will include: members of the Walking Roots Band will perform, an HMC children’s choir will perform, Wendell Shank will make 'balloon twists & sleight of hand', enjoy ethnic foods and games, tethered balloon rides, radio-controlled planes with Marty King, and soccer (five person teams). This will be a great time for the whole family!
  • Soccer players!  Form a team with church or family members and register for the soccer tournament at the VMM Family Missions Fest, Sunday, May 11, 3-6:00 p.m. on the EMS soccer field.  Teens and older are invited to play.  To register, send your team name, the contact person and contact information to Eric Codding by May 7.  Send e-mail to eric.codding@emu.edu, and put ‘VMM soccer’ in the subject line.  You will be informed of your game time. A $10 registration fee will be collected at the tournament.  Prizes will be given. Please spread the word to anyone who may be interested!
  • Join us for the musical "Noah's Flood," May 16 & 17 at 7:30 pm in the EMS Auditorium! Come hear the beloved Benjamin Britten opera, featuring the singing talents of the EMS Touring Choir, a children's choir of "animals" and YOU, the audience, through congregational singing in this hour-long family-friendly show! Join us for a musical experience like no other! Proceeds from this event will benefit the EMS Touring Choir trip to Albania, Bulgaria, Kosovo and Romania this summer. Virginia Mennonite Missions is in need of volunteer receptionists.  Are you interested in supporting missions work?  This might be the just the right opportunity for you!  VMM is looking for persons who are willing to volunteer one morning or afternoon each week to sit at the front desk answering phones, greeting visitors, and assisting the administrative assistant with occasional office tasks.  If you are interested in supporting the work of VMM by serving as a volunteer receptionist please contact Sarah N.
