Statement regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) passed by CMC Church Council on 3/07/17.
Whereas CMC is a peace church where everyone is welcome, and whereas our immigrant and refugee neighbors in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County express anxiety and fear about continuing deportations and family separations in the years ahead, and whereas sensitive locations like the church-based homeless shelter near Fairfax County, VA have already been targeted in an ICE raid, and whereas Jesus’ family fled violence in their home country (Israel) and found a safe haven in a foreign country (Egypt), and where as in welcoming the stranger and immigrant we have opportunity to meet Christ our Lord, CMC leadership will not voluntarily comply with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel who may be seeking access to our property or buildings.
